우연히 펼쳤던 2001년 독일 신문에서 은행광고 속 백인의 눈빛과 아프리카 열악한 의료인프라에 대한 기사 속 흑인소년의 눈빛이 인상적으로 대조적이어서 오래 간직하고 있었다. 13년 후 그 신문을 크게 확대하여 바닥에 깔고 그 위에 흑과 백의 무해하고 아름다운 식물들을 그 위에 배치하면서 인간사회와 식물의 세계를 대조적으로 제시한 작업이다.

In a German newspaper from 2001, which I happened to open by chance, the gaze of a white man in a bank advertisement at the bottom of the page sharply contrasted with the eyes of a young Black boy pictured in a column above, reporting on Africa’s fragile medical infrastructure. 13 Years later, it became a work in which I enlarged the newspaper, laid it on the floor, and arranged harmless, beautiful black and white plants over it.—creating a visual contrast between the structures of human society and the quiet world of plants.
