The Library of Whisper and Sleep presents an imagined future library having a collection of information related to seven endangered plants in Korea. Field sounds recorded in their natural habitats and the text written by botanist Nam Soohwan are placed on the under the table. For the artist, a library means a vast universe and a communication station bridging the past and the future in the present.In this future library where there is only cataloged information as if following Kitter(Friedrich Kitter, 1943~)'s claim that all can be reduced to the switching on and off, visitors hear the whispers of those on the verge of disappearing.
속삭임과 잠의 도서관은 멸종 위기에 처한 한반도의 일곱가지 식물정보를 담아 미래의 도서관을 상상하며 제작한 작품이다. 멸종위기 식물의 자생지에서 녹음한 소리와 남수환 식물학자의 글이 테이블 위와 아래에 놓여진다. 작가에게 도서관은 하나의 거대한 우주이며 과거와 미래를 연결하는 현재의 통신소이다. '오직 끄고 켜는 것만이 존재하는 것이다.'라는 키틀러(프리드리히 키틀러, 1943~)의 문구처럼 목록화된 정보만이 존재하는 미래의 도서관에서 이제는 사라질 존재들의 속삭임을 만나게 된다.

미래의 도서관- Bibliothèque du futur
책을 읽으며 밑 줄을 긋는다.
이 글이 설명하는 것을 상상하고 이해하려하다 보면 그 다음을 다시 상상한다.
나는 그것의 미래를 읽게 될 것인가, 듣게 될 것인가, 만지게 될 것인가, 보게 될 것인가?
어떤 장소에 스스로 자라 자리잡던 생명들이 위기를 겪고 사라지거나 오히려 더 번성하는 이야기를 읽으며 그 다음을 생각한다.
장소는 구분할 수 없는 시간의 흐름 속에 끊임없이 변화하고 그것을 이해하는 방법도 다르지 않을 것이다.
잘 보려고 할수록 볼 수 없는 것을 다른 감각과 인식의 방편으로 감지할 수 있을까?
기록되는 것은 언제나 과거라는 이름의 무덤을 만드는 일임을 알기 때문에 글을 읽으며 먼 그 다음을 상상한다. 그러나 그것은 읽을 수 없을 지도 모른다. 읽는 것은 무덤을 더듬는 일이기 때문이다.
대신 언어가 휘발하고 난 탁자아래 누워 잠이 들며 어떤 속삭임을 들을 수 있을지도.
