The eight islands floating on the dark night sea are, in fact, eight individuals seated in a shadowy space, each engrossed in reading a book.
Unfamiliar with one another, they illuminate their presence with faint lights, each signaling only their existence. In this library of darkness, they remain silent, immersed in solitary contemplation within the dim glow. Though no words are exchanged, the act of sharing the same darkness and breathing the same air becomes a more vital condition for survival than conversation.
Just as travel between islands requires a boat, the connection between one light and another—between individuals—is possible only through the transfer of the books they read. By reading what another has read, their experiences intersect, enabling a quiet yet profound form of communion.
어두운 밤 바다에 떠있는 8 개의 섬은 어두운 공간 안에 책을 보고 앉아있는 8 명의 사람이다.
각각은 서로를 알지 못하고 희미한 불빛을 밝히며 자신의 현존만을 알리고 있다. 이 어둠의 도서관에서는 침묵하며 희미한 빛 안에서 자신만의 사색에 빠지는데 서로 대화하지 않음에도 같은 어둠과 공기를 숨쉬는 일은 대화를 나누는 것보다 더 중요한 생존의 조건이 된다.
섬과 섬의 왕래는 배가 있어야 하듯 여기에서 빛과 빛, 즉 한 사람 한 사람의 교감은 그들이 읽는 책의 이동으로만 가능하다. 그가 무엇을 읽었는지를 내가 읽어 확인하는 것으로 우리의 경험은 교차하고 교감할 수 있다.
