제주시 원도심에 50년 된 대동호텔의 역사를 기념한 커미션 작업이다.
대동 호텔을 운영해온 가족의 의미있는 과거 특정 년도와 먼 미래의 년도를 매칭해서 시간의 확장을 표현한 일종의 시간모델이다.
과거와 미래의 매칭은 시간의 비선형적인 인과관계를 은유하며, 세 개의 창에 설치된 로프 구조는 각각 제주의 자연이 보여주는 봄과 가을, 여름, 겨울을 다채로운 색과 형의 특징을 조형적으로 표현하고 있다.
이 작업은 시간을 일반적으로 선형적으로 이해하는 것과 추상적 시간을 년월일시분초 등의 시간단위로 측정하는 것에 대해 질문한다.
This work is a commission sculpture that commemorates the 50-year history of the Dae-Dong hotel located in the old downtown in Jeju Island. Meaningful points in time for families who have run the hotel matches in the space. The past and the future meet in the project. The conjunction metaphorizes the nonlinear-causal-temporal relationship between the incidents.
In the three windows, the rope structure installed formatively displays colors and shapes of four seasons from the regional nature.
The project raises a question about the time that cannot be expressed by numbers and graphs - how to measure moments abstract. Then, the space functions for the model of expanded timeline beyond number.
